Mail-Art Tin

I created this mail-art piece for a friend I intend to mail it as is through the mail. I used a large rectangular windowed tin by cutting the background paper to fit and then adding the image that was given to me by Karen Owen . I used watercolor pencils to color her dress and gel pens to accentuate then I added her onto the background with foam pop dots to raise her up. I added another piece of scrap paper to the front of her and stuck the sides on with double stick tape. I then added the moss and bird using some multi-purpose adhesive. The front label bracket was added by marking holes with a pin then popping brads through to secure it. Finally I used double stick tape on the ribbon and wrapped it around the outside of the tin to keep it closed.

On the backside I added some rub-on's I had laying around and wrote with a permanent marker I then sealed it with PYMII.

I couldn't resist sharing this picture of the Wood Journal that Kris Henderson created, it turned out so awesome!!
Kris used one of OTM's Wood Journals and burned spots with a wood burning tool. She then gave it color by using Color Mists on it. She also added copper nails and a hand shaped drawer pull and beautiful fibers. To seal and protect it she used PYMII.

Acrylic Domino

Supplies Used

I had a few questions and I thought I'd add that the side I'm shown working on is rough and so the watercolor pencils take to it very nicely and because of it being rough do not smear when I add the Crystal Lacquer.

The Lady of the Night…Dances
Tutorial
Created by: Jean Carter

SUPPLIES

DIRECTIONS

Begin by chipping away the wood grid from the tic tac toe board. I used a screw driver. Leave a little for added texture.
Paint the front with black gesso let dry
Dry sponge white gesso over the black

Next spray with copper kettle around the perimeter and let dry
Spray with PYM11

Stamp the images to be used onto the card stock and spray with PYM11
Dab the red and black cats eye ink around the outer portions of the gold moon face
Spray with PYM11

Using the red cats eye pad directly to paper, stamp a headdress form on the white card stock.
Cut out the stamped images and tint with chalk and add shading
Using the black tip pen, add line detail to the stockings and the headdress

Using the rest of the cats eye fluid chalk pads…dab all over the background of the board and the top edges. Use heat gun to set
Spray again with PYM11

Using your finger, smear the white luster rub ons over the background with a heavier application along the bottom half.
Spray with PYM11
Punch out stars and color with sunburst luster rubs

Assembly the headdress and limbs to the moon with glue dots
Attach the image to the board with double sticky foam tape
Attach the stars to the background with glue dots
Using white pen, add title to the bottom

Penscore Slide Show Technique

I love using penscore molding foam! The possibilities are endless what you can do with it. If you don't like what you've impressed into it just heat it and try again. Here I used fossil texture sheets but you can also use scrunched up paper, lace and even a piece of wood. As for the texture sheets this is just one of many uses for them stay tuned for more!

When's the last time you've actually sat down and colored? Coloring is good therapy! My challenge to you is to double click on the image below and download it to your computer to print out and color. Once you've colored (painting's okay too) it, send a copy to me at: otm@outsidethemargins.com of your colored masterpiece and I'll post it in the gallery here:
